About Me


As I begin my latest journey living abroad as a TEFL teacher in Krakow, Poland, I renamed this blog "The Awakened Traveler." I've grown significantly since this blog originally named "Following The Light" began a decade ago now. I cannot believe all the geographical moves, heartaches, and miraculous blessings I've experienced along the way. I've accepted the fact that I am a gypsy at heart that I love to explore countries, cities cultures, foods, and meet interesting people. Along with teaching English abroad, I will also be writing and traveling whenever I get the chance. 

I am an avid storyteller by trade, having begun my career as a journalist for several local newspapers in the United States. My writing and storytelling abilities eventually led me to the editorship of a trade magazine covering the commercial and residential real estate industry in New York City. I later led the marketing, communications, and public relations departments of two international firms. I now have my own content writing business creating content for businesses.

The Continuing Adventures of an American Writer Living Abroad, Toulouse

  As I write this, I am on my patio drinking wine and sparkling water and munching on some almonds and dates I bought from the organic co-op minutes from my short-term rental in the centre of Toulouse. Just having arrived last Friday, Toulouse feels open, happy, bright and flowing. Just being here a few days, I feel more alive. I want to wander out. I want to interact with people again. And people say Bonjour with a smile. Having lived in Poland for over a year, I missed the openness of passersby. So, whatever people say about the French, it just isn’t so. I’ve been to Paris, and I found the same thing. They are friendly and kind to strangers. Settling in South Louisiana

 Back in the States, working for a Caribbean resort company that includes travel to the islands! I am settling in Lafayette, LA. I have bought furniture since renting a furnished apartment would totally blow my budget. It is definitely more expensive to live in the States than in Europe. I miss the beautiful historic buildings and the European lifestyle, but this time, I was very selective about the type of job/client I chose, and I passed on several opportunities that would have kept me in Europe. However, I truly wanted to stay in the travel/hospitality industry.  So, I took a breather from Europe and job seeking there. I stayed with my sister in Connecticut for a while, interviewing for several jobs I had no interest in.
