About Me


As I begin my latest journey living abroad as a TEFL teacher in Krakow, Poland, I renamed this blog "The Awakened Traveler." I've grown significantly since this blog originally named "Following The Light" began a decade ago now. I cannot believe all the geographical moves, heartaches, and miraculous blessings I've experienced along the way. I've accepted the fact that I am a gypsy at heart that I love to explore countries, cities cultures, foods, and meet interesting people. Along with teaching English abroad, I will also be writing and traveling whenever I get the chance. 

I am an avid storyteller by trade, having begun my career as a journalist for several local newspapers in the United States. My writing and storytelling abilities eventually led me to the editorship of a trade magazine covering the commercial and residential real estate industry in New York City. I later led the marketing, communications, and public relations departments of two international firms. I now have my own content writing business creating content for businesses.

Living Abroad - Year One

 It’s been nearly a year since I arrived in Poland. I thought to teach English to foreign language students, but the Universe apparently had other plans. And I can finally say I have firm footing here living abroad. Krakow, Poland - Wawel Castle A lot has happened over the last year, which seems to have flown by. I came here through the sponsorship of a TEFL business. I wasn’t all that impressed with the support, and low and behold, that business lost its ability to sponsor work permits in Poland. The announcement came in late December with an end date of June 30, 2022. So, I had some time to figure out what was next. Krakow Three months On/Lion's Gate

Over three months have passed since I moved to Krakow. I arrived before my fall internship to get acquainted with the city and life abroad, and besides not being able to speak Polish, it's been quite easy to settle in here. I found a place to sit in a cafe and write with WIFI. It's actually right across the street from my flat, Cafe Stockholm . They just added on a back patio and increased their menu to include lunch.  And because my flat is centrally located, everything I need is literally a five to ten-minute walk. I've found a place right around the corner that has coffee beans from all around the world. There are also two high-end wine stores located on my street and are less than two minutes from my building.  Last month I had checkups with my new doctors and got my prescriptions filled without a hitch. And if you want OTC meds, just bring your bottles to the pharmacist and they will give you the Polish equivalent. The people here are more than happy to help out in any...

The Power Couple – The Empress and The Emperor

 If both The Empress and The Emperor come up in a tarot reading, it means this is a power couple! Why are they a power couple? They both rule over their empire.
